The Mask

Assalamualaikum and heyo neyo.

Facebook. Blogs. Twitter. Tumblr. Flickr. Instagram.
...and the list goes on for light-years.

The art of creating a socially ideal and acceptable individual lies within this list of social networking media. Masking every reality hidden behind all those happy statuses, pretty pictures, emotional posts. Every time I went through the newsfeed of any medium, I see a cascade of concealment, and unfortunately I was putting my own mask too.

That's the problem subtly burdening us everyday. So subtle you didn't even realize that you're creating someone that is not you. Pictures with posh cars and lavish vacations abroad, yet nobody knows the enormous debt and credit card used for that purpose. Sweet photos with the beloved yet nobody knows the bitter argument they're having backstage. Arrogant statuses flaunting political opinions yet nobody knows the amount of copy-pasting done to impress the Facebook or Twitter community. So much for investing into what your friends and society wanna see. So much for opening up opportunities for le syaitans. A mask so thick that it's almost hard to separate reality and facebook-approved photos.

But the choice is still in our hands. Let your mask be transparent, no concealing behind someone you're not. God sees you for who you are.
